Here you will find the project timeline for improvements to the Swiss Cottage Open Space. After starting the project in July 2020, a number of project milestones and opportunities for community feedback are being planned. Please note – Although we aim to provide you with the most up to date timescales, project dates are subject to change.

Round 1 Community Engagement

We provided information about the open space improvements project and asked the community what they liked and disliked about the current space.

Round 2 Community Engagement and Young People Engagement

We shared design principles and options for the space to understand better what the community wanted. We also spoke to young people in the local area to ensure their views were captured during this process.

We shared the feedback received from round 2. This highlighted to us that there were a number of conflicting issues that needed to be explored and resolved in order to progress the conceptual design further.

Project placed on hold

After the Round 2 community engagement was completed, we put the project on hold in May 2021 while we carefully considered what people had told us.

Extended Concept Design

Based on the information received from the Round 2 Engagement and workshops with Camden's Grounds maintenance and Operational teams, we are preparing updated concept design ideas for the open space.

Round 3 - Young People Filming Workshop

Pre App Planning Advice

Given the nature of the changes being proposed we may require planning consent to progress with the final scheme. We will seek pre-app planning advise from the Planning department during this period.

Detailed Design Work

Using all of the feedback received so far, we will now develop a detailed design and final proposals for the open space.

Detailed Design Workshop - Urban Skate plaza

Camden Council and design consultants LUC are running a youth engagement session on the design of Adelaide Road Urban Plaza. The event will be run as an informal discussion. Technical Design work begins

Using all of the feedback received so far, we will now develop the detailed design option into a technical design option. The technical design will help us to find the right contractor to build out final design.

Round 4 Community Presentation

A detailed and final design will be presented to the local community.

Contractor selection process

March 2024

June 2024

We will need to follow Council procurement guidance in order to select the right contractor. This process could take up to 5 months from beginning to end. This process will ensure the Council receives best value and that we only work with reputable contractors.

Works begin on site

Autumn 2024

Works on site are expected to commence from late 2024. Due to the nature of the works as well as the impact of the nearby 100 Avenue Road development, works are expected to be completed over a number of phases.
